Hey gang, Matt Frewer here, filling in for Tom Batten as your newsletter guy this week. You might know me from my work as MAX HEADROOM, or possibly from my turn as Max Duff in Tiny Toons, or possibly even as Russel Tresh in the hit TV movie Generation X. Right now I'm on location here in Virginia starring in a new biopic of Charles Shaw, the wine magnate. It's a tough job, but getting to write this newsletter this week makes it all worthwhile, somehow. See, I'm a little bit of a method actor, and as it turns out, Charles Shaw loved filling in on things for people. So this is really more for me than for you, although I do hope you enjoy it. There's a couple of things the good folks at Velocity Comics want me to let you know, so let's dive in!
ITEM: The Velocity Comics Jam Comic is waiting for you to come participate in it. I'm not sure what a jam comic is, although as a life-long Stevie Ray Vaughn fan, I do know a lot about jamming! True story: On the set of National Lampoon's Senior Trip I used to blast Vaughn from my trailer non-stop to relax between set-ups. One morning I was really rocking with it, and one of the young stars of the film came by egged the window of my trailer! When I went outside this future superstar was standing there, more eggs at the ready, and he threatened to keep at it until I turned down the volume. Well, I went inside and turned it way, way up! I guess I was kind of ahead of the curve on the whole 'not letting the terrorists win' thing. And do you know who that young future superstar was? It was Jeremy Renner, star of The Hurt Locker and the upcoming Avengers movie! I actually contacted Renner to play a small part as the Trader Joe's executive who takes a chance on Shaw in my new movie, but he was too busy. He did remember me, though--nice guy!
ITEM: I'm supposed to tell you that it's important you let the Velocity staff know f you're interested in comics like the new Incredible Hulk, from creative team Jason Aaron and Mark Silvestri, Wolverine and the X-Men, also by Aaron, X-Sanction by Jeph Loeb and Ed Mcguiness, and others. They say that it's important that you sign up for these titles so that they know how many to order and don't sell out before you can get a copy, as I'm told has been an issue with these DC relaunch books. And trust me when I tell you that The Frewster knows a thing or two about selling out! Mostly from my immersion in the life of Charles Shaw--who gave up on his hip-hop dreams to follow the more immediately lucrative path of wine sales. Sad story--one that'll you have to see for yourself in theaters this fall.
